Xbox is set to release new games this June and upgrade or replace older free games, this is welcome news for all who use their system.
After launching last June, the Games With Gold promotion’s one-year anniversary takes place next month. To celebrate, Microsoft is temporarily bumping up the usual allotment of two free games to three for Xbox 360 owners with an Xbox Live Gold subscription.
No specific dates were shared for when the games would be made free, but we do know which games we’ll be getting. The notoriously difficult (yet highly rewarding) Dark Souls is the first of the two regularly scheduled games. While it is over two years old (and with a sequel now available), Dark Souls remains an excellent game, having earned a 9.5 in GameSpot’s review.
Following that is quality Xbox Live Arcade beat-em-up Charlie Murder, which was released last August. An especially good co-op game with an interesting art style, Charlie Murder earned a 7.5 in GameSpot’s review last year.
The bonus game for Gold members in June is one of the many updated versions of Street Fighter IV–specifically, Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition. Released on consoles in 2011, it earned a 7.5 in GameSpot’s review and remains the most current version of Street Fighter IV–until Ultra Street Fighter IV is released this summer, at least.
In case you haven’t already downloaded it, the current free Xbox 360 game, Dust: An Elysian Tail, will be replaced by Saints Row: The Third later this week.
As always, Xbox 360 Games With Gold titles are free to download for Xbox Live Gold members. By adding any of the games to your download queue, you permanently add it to your library so that you can play and re-download it in the future, regardless of your current subscription status.
